The detective who interviewed a Davenport man accused of shooting his half-brother testified Tuesday that Wade Gittings admitted he was the shooter.

Wade Gittings, 41, appeared with his attorney at a preliminary hearing Tuesday in Scott County Court, where several members of his family and friends told him “I love you” before and after the proceedings. He faces a charge of first-degree murder.

The shooting incident

Shortly after 9 p.m. Jan. 26 in the 7200 block of Volquardsen Avenue, Davenport Police, Fire and Medic EMS responded to a residence for a report of gunfire and a victim.

Davenport Police Detective Evan Obert testified that Wade Gittings said at the scene he had shot his half-brother, Jevin E. Gittings, 26.

“There was a lot of blood” at the scene, Obert said. A pistol was next to Wade Gittings in the living room, and there was a gun in Jevin Gittings’ room. A witness, Obert said, heard Wade Gittings say “You’re not talking now.”

Obert said there had been an argument and then a physical altercation between family members before the shooting. Wade Gittings, he said, had been forthcoming about what had transpired, and said he had been drinking heavily.

Wade Gittings, according to arrest affidavits, admitted he waited until Jevin Gittings was in the kitchen and out of sight before retrieving his own gun from his bedroom.

Wade S. Gittings, is being held on $250,000 cash-only bond in Scott County Jail. He is set for arraignment Feb. 29 in Scott County Court.
